HIGHLAND PARK, Mich. — The Detroit community is mourning the death of Diego Johnson, 36, who was killed Thursday morning in a serious single-vehicle crash on Woodward Avenue near the Davison Freeway in Highland Park.
The fatal collision reportedly occurred shortly before 5:30 a.m. near the intersection of Woodward Avenue and the Davison Freeway. Johnson was traveling as a passenger in a black Chevrolet Equinox when the vehicle became involved in the devastating crash.
According to police, the Chevrolet Equinox was traveling northbound on Woodward Avenue when the driver crossed the center line for reasons that remain under investigation. The vehicle then struck a telephone pole, causing severe damage and leaving both occupants seriously injured.
