HORRY COUNTY, S.C. — The Surfside Beach community is mourning the deaths of Christina Hammers, 46, and Bruce Taylor, 43, following a fatal shooting at a Murphy gas station in Horry County late Wednesday night, August 26, 2026.
The incident occurred at approximately 11:45 p.m. at the Murphy gas station in the 100 block of Mayport Drive, according to information released by the Horry County Police Department and Horry County Coroner’s Office.
Authorities said Hammers and Taylor were among those involved in the shooting. The Coroner’s Office later identified the two individuals who suffered critical injuries in the incident.
According to investigators, Hammers and Taylor entered the gas station shortly before the shooting. Authorities said Taylor approached Hammers inside the store and allegedly shot her before turning the firearm on himself. Both sustained fatal injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene.
A third person was also shot during the incident but reportedly suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Officials have not released that individual’s identity or provided further details about the circumstances surrounding the injury.
